Post 1: 27.5 hours, Monday-Thursday 8.45-3.30, Friday 8.45-12.30 inc breaks (3 vacancies)
Post 2: 8 hours, Monday-Thursday 11.30-1.30 (1 vacancy)

Sanderson’s Wynd Primary School is a non-denominational primary school, which caters for children from Nursery to P7. One wing of the school forms The Hub, East Lothian’s provision for pupils with severe complex support needs.
In addition to normal classroom accommodation the school has a large gym hall, dining hall, a movement and dance studio, which is also timetabled for drama and other activities. The school also benefits from a well-resourced Learning Support Room a library, tutorial rooms, meeting rooms and a staff work base.
Sanderson’s Wynd also hosts facilities for the local playgroup, an Early Years Centre and the After School Club and a Community room. The school campus is fully accessible.
Job Details
Purpose of the Job
To work with individual and small groups of pupils with additional support needs in classes and in out-of-class activities.
Major Tasks
To undertake any of the following duties:
- To assist pupils to carry out assignments set by class teacher
- To assist pupils to carry out individual Educational Plans
developed in conjunction with teachers and therapists
- To contribute to annual review procedures for pupils
- To assist with duties under the direction of teaching staff
- To work flexibly as a member of a team of support for
pupils
- To supervise non-teaching areas e.g. corridors, classrooms,
dining hall, playground
- To attend to personal/care needs of specified pupils
- To supervise pupils in out-of-class activities
- To accompany pupils on educational visits
- To assist with preparation of classroom materials
Job Requirements
Relevant Qualifications
Essential
Previous experience in working with pupils with additional support needs.
Desirable
Qualification/training in working with children with additional support needs.
Nursing/care experience.
PVG Membership
This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
From 28 February 2011 all preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups will be required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
